Care manual

Leather gets better with care.

Rule number one when owning something in leather: take care of it. A few minutes now and then is all it takes.

Breaking them in

New leather is firm. Wear your pair for an hour or two at home the first few days, then build up. The toe split and heel will soften and shape to your foot.

Everyday care

Brush off dust and dirt after wear with a soft horsehair brush. For marks, wipe gently with a barely damp cloth and let the shoes dry on their own.

Conditioning

When the leather starts to look dry or pale, usually every one to two months of regular wear, work in a thin layer of neutral leather conditioner with a soft cloth. Let it absorb, then buff. Always test on a hidden spot first.

If they get wet

  • Blot off water with a towel.
  • Stuff with newspaper or paper towels to hold the shape and draw out moisture.
  • Dry at room temperature, away from radiators, heaters and direct sun.
  • Condition once they are fully dry.

Storing them

Keep your pair in the dust bag or a breathable box, out of direct sunlight. Cedar shoe trees or rolled paper help them keep their shape between wears.

Soles and repairs

Soles wear down with use, which is normal. A good cobbler can resole and repair leather shoes. Email Hi@artois.dk if you would like advice first.
